Lessons 24-26 - Constructive and Destructive Forces - Project

Introduction

It’s project time!  For this project, you will describe and illustrate some of the vocabulary words used in our earth science unit.  Your project will be judged based on the criteria below.

    1. Your project needs to be on paper – as small as a normal piece of 8.5 × 11 copy paper or as large as a poster board.  (You may even tape two or more pieces of copy paper together.  You may also fold copy paper to make a booklet, with one term on each page.)
    2. It should have a prominent title that’s appropriate for the project you choose.
    3. It should present at least 5 of the vocabulary words (a.k.a. terms) from the list below.
    4. A definition should be provided for each term.
    5. Some additional information about the term should be provided after the definition.  (This could be an interesting fact about the term, the term used in an interesting example sentence, or an example of the term).  Whichever you do, it must be in your own words.
    6. An illustration must be provided for each term.  Illustrations should be hand-drawn (not printouts) and colored.  Pictures may be traced.

Possible Vocabulary Terms

weathering, sediment, erosion, deposition, crust, core, plate tectonics, fault, earthquake, magma, destructive forces, constructive forces, barrier island, beach nourishment, dam, contour plowing, sea wall, storm drain, delta, jetty, levee

    2. Accuracy of your information
    3. Neatness of writing, presentation, and illustrations
    4. Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
    5. Evidence of planning and effort
