(RN) Composing Rhythmic Lines
Composing Rhythmic Lines
We will now focus our attention on composing original rhythmic lines. We can begin with a 4/4 time example that is four measures in length.
Each measure is completed with rhythms that equal four quarter notes. Notice that there are no rests in this rhythmic line.
Here is a four measure example in 3/4 time. Notice that each measure is equal to three beats and there are no rests used. Each measure is the equivalent of 3 quarter notes.
Notice this example is in a compound meter (6/8 time) and rests are used as part of the rhythmic line. Each measure is the equivalent of 6 eighth notes.
Composing original rhythmic lines can virtually be limitless. There is such a wealth of rhythms to choose from and so rhythms are only limited by our creativity. For the remainder of this lesson you will work on composing your own original rhythmic lines.
