Menus

Menus for games are usually screens with some type of background, with an arrangement of buttons for actions such as new game or start game, options, load game and quit game.

These screens act as a control panel for the game, allowing the player to change settings, choose modes, or access the actual game.

Splash Screen

The initial start screen for most modern computer games is called a Splash Screen. It serves as a title screen and consists of an image, or small section of the program in a loop, a logo and the version of the software. Most commercial games have a splash screen to enhance the look of an application while the program is loading.

Once the game is loaded, the player usually clicks a button to start the game.

Instructions Screen

Navigation screens are used to guide players through the game.   An instructional screen needs to be simple and easy to understand without too much detail.  A simple game may start directly without any instructions. Consider, the information the player needs to know to be able to start playing.
