PCC - Motion (Lesson)

Motion

Introduction

Motion is the key to movies and the entertainment industry. Engagement through activity combined with sound, color, and other perspectives drives the interest of the individual to watch.

In Alice 3, motion is created by doing a combination of items together. For a car, it must move forward and the wheels turn at the same time so a do together statement is needed.

For leg motion, the foot, ankle, knees and hips might move together to create motion. As one leg goes forward, the other goes backward and at the same time the object is slowly moving forward.

Motions are usually created in procedures so that they may be used over and over again. If you have multiple people, creating a walking motion in a procedure at the person level versus the individual level allows you to call the procedure for all of the people, not just one.

Motion Demonstration

View the video below to see a car in motion with wheels turning.

The walk procedure for bipeds is detailed in the video below.  Making various procedures work in a fluid manner requires attention to the duration and the time frame of the movement.

Motion Resources (Creating Movement and Interest with Motion)

Walking

Below are 3 levels of walking a3p files, sourced from Carnegie Mellon University (and free to use).  These will help when examining ways to use motion in different ways.

Manipulating Joints Creates Motion, Interest, and Reality

The information below will provide how to used detailed movement skeletons of the objects and how to manipulate an object's parts, which are found in the function methods already written for you.  All you have to do is provide the parameters and create your own story for their use.
