Introduction
Have you ever thought about where food comes from? Or maybe even a job or career as a food scientist? The industry of food science has become an evolution of the past century. From slaying an animal and preparing it yourself to shopping in a market for a prepackaged steak. How did the butcher process a side of beef into a 10 oz ribeye? Did he/she go to school for that? There are many jobs and careers in the nutrition field from working in a market to the scientist in the food lab that tests all of our products to make sure they are safe.

In this module, we will study the following topics:
What is Food Science?: The applied science deals with the chemical, biochemical, physical, physiochemical, and biological properties of foods.
History and Development of Food Systems: With changes over many centuries, humans are now in a place where most of us have access to healthy and nourishing food. The changes in the early days with transportation and canals led to advances in science with food preservation The diverse types of ingredients, baking and cooking methods, as well as preservation methods make food possibilities endless!
Food Science and the Future: With a growth of 9 million people in just 40 years, will we have enough food to feed everyone? Will it be up to food scientists to discover a new plant or animal source food source. What could it be?? Is it even on planet Earth?
Careers in Food Science: A career as a Food Scientist involves ways to improve the efficiency and safety of agricultural establishments, products, and manufacturing.
