Sol - What is a Solution? (Lesson)

What is a Solution?

Introduction

In chemistry, a solution is a specific type of homogeneous mixture composed of two or more substances. This lesson will explain the process that occurs when a solute (substance being dissolved) is dissolved in a solvent (substance that does the dissolving).

Solutions, Acids, and Bases

In this segment of Chemistry Matters, produced by GPB, the host introduces solutions, acids and bases and their importance in chemistry. The students begin a lab, adding different salts to water at different temperatures and observing the conditions under which the salts dissolve.

You will not be required to complete the solubility investigation of three different salts

Process of Dissolution Activity

The following interactive demonstrates the process of solvation. Follow the activity to see how the particles arrange themselves as a solvent (Water) dissolves a solute (Sodium Chloride).
