SDAS - Fixed Do and Moveable Do Systems Microlesson
Fixed Do and Moveable Do Systems Microlesson
Introduction
Fixed Do is one of the methodologies for sight singing. It may be considered easier than other systems because each pitch always maintains its own syllable, regardless of the key signature.
The main pitches used are Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, and Do. Each one of these syllables is used to correlate to its appropriate pitch.

Fixed Do Review
In Fixed Do, the following always remain the same, despite the key signature or key change.
C is always Do
D is always Re
E is always Mi
F is always Fa
G is always Sol
A is always La
B is always Ti (or Si)
Moveable Do Review
Moveable Do is very similar to using scale degree numbers to sight-sing, except that syllables are used. Using this method consistently aides with identifying the intervals between pitches, too.
For Moveable Do, the syllables are dependent upon the Key.
Do is the first scale degree
Re is the second scale degree
Mi is the third scale degree
Fa is the fourth scale degree
Sol is the fifth scale degree
La is the sixth scale degree
Ti is the seventh scale degree
