Schools today serve multiple purposes, and they’re not just about reading, writing, and math. Broadly, education is meant to:

Prepare Citizens:

Schools teach students about history, government, and civic responsibilities.
Students learn skills like critical thinking and decision-making to participate effectively in society.
Example: Learning how laws are made or how to vote responsibly.

Prepare Workers:

Education equips students with skills for the workforce, from technical skills to soft skills like teamwork and problem-solving.
Schools offer career and technical education (CTE), STEM programs, and internships.
Example: A student learning coding, healthcare skills, or business management.

Support Personal Growth:

Schools help students develop socially and emotionally.
They foster creativity, self-discipline, and lifelong learning habits.

Schools don’t exist in isolation. Around the world, different countries approach education differently, and we can learn from these comparisons.
