Novel Reminder

By now, you should be at least 1/2 of the way through your novel. As you read, make sure you are actively applying the following:

As you read your novel, remember to:

Discuss your personal goals for the novel with your teacher or guardian.
Create a reading plan to make sure you are pacing your reading appropriately.
- Edit this calendar to create and monitor your reading goals
  - You will need to look at the total number of pages that your novel has, and create your reading schedule as such:
  - Use the dates on your Pace Plan to guide you in finishing the required pages by the end of your modules.
Revise your reading goals as needed.
As you read, make sure to use your reading strategies for comprehension
- - Scan and skim the text, noting sections that are important.
  - Use prior knowledge to help make meaning or fill in gaps.
  - Summarize and visualize the text to maintain understanding.
  - Predict what might happen next.
  - Look at the levels of meaning within the text (literal and figurative).
  - Use context clues to determine unfamiliar words.

How to create a reading schedule.

Step 1: Determine what day you need to have the book read.
Step 2: Count how many days you have till that date.
Step 3: How many pages is the book? _____
Step 4: Divide the total number of pages by the total number of days you have to read the book.

For example, if your book has 224 total pages and you have 10 days to read the book, take the 224 pages and divide by 10. You will need to read 23 pages per day to complete the book in 10 days.
