Prépositions

Prepositions are an important part of learning a language, and prepositions can sometimes have different meanings depending on the context of the sentence. A good example of this in French is the preposition à, which can mean to, at, or in in English. It is important to keep an open mind about prepositions and to learn them in context so that you can use them correctly.

Prepositions of Place

Now let's look at prepositions of place. These prepositions describe where things are in relation to something else.

For the prepositions that are followed by de, don't forget the rules for making contractions with de:

  • de +le = du, de l'
  • de + la = de la, de l'
  • de + les = des
