SurfaceArea.pngYou want to wrap a birthday present for your friend. The amount of wrapping paper you will need depends on the surface area of the box. The surface area of a three-dimensional figure is the sum of the areas of its surfaces. To help find the areas of the surfaces of a three-dimensional figure, you can use a net. A net is a two-dimensional figure that, when folded, forms the surfaces of a three-dimensional object.

Before we discuss finding the surface area of a prism, try to label the parts of the right rectangular prism below. This will help you get a better understanding of the terms before finding the surface area.
