Art Aesthetics to Your Drawings

In this lesson, you have learned a theoretical knowledge of the philosophy of aesthetics as it applies to art. In this assignment, you will create art of the same subject matter for the viewer in all three aesthetic viewpoints. In order to successfully represent each viewpoint, you may have to change the medium, color scheme, angle, or light source. Imagine you are part of each "team" as you create an artwork around a toy or other sentimental object from your childhood.

In my example, the rubber ducky is drawn in ink and painted in watercolor for all three viewpoints but how the media was used changes dramatically in each image.

The rubber ducky is drawn in ink and painted in watercolor for all three viewpoints but how the media was used changes dramatically in each image.

In this module, you learned about the three aesthetic viewpoints of Imitationalism, Emotionalism, and Formalism used in art criticism. You also learned how to do a formal art criticism of a work of art and wrote a Feldman's Model art criticism paper on Andrew Wyeth's painting, Christina's World. The four parts of an art criticism are description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment, and you used your knowledge of aesthetics and the elements and principles of art to complete the assignment. Finally, you applied your aesthetic knowledge to a sentimental object from your childhood showing that the artwork could still be considered successful regardless of which aesthetic viewpoint it was created under.
