ODS - The Odyssey Lesson

In this lesson, you will be reading The Odyssey. Before beginning The Odyssey, take a look at the presentation below. It may take a few minutes to load, so please be patient.

Now that you have an idea of how The Odyssey is told, let's get started.  You are going to begin reading the story as Odysseus is telling his story to the king of Phaeacia.  He is recounting the events of his first adventures after leaving Troy. 

The Odyssey Reading Assignment

Be sure that you only read the selected books in each section of The Odyssey text. Links to an external site.

Part One: Ismarus, Lotus Eaters, Cyclops (Book 9)

Please read  Book 9 and then complete the study questions for your own review. 

Part Two: Aeolus, Laestrygonians, Circe; The Land of the Dead; Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis, Helios (Books 10, 11, & 12)

Please read  Books 10, 11, & 12 and then complete the study questions for your own review. 

Part Three: Odysseus and the Beggar; The Test of the Great Bow   (Books 17 & 21)

Please read Books 17 & 21 and then complete the study questions for your own review. 

Part Four: The Killing of the Suitors; Odysseus and Penelope (Books 22 & 23)

Please read  Books 22 & 23 and then complete the study questions for your own review.
