MIG - Module Overview

Migration

Introduction

Migration is the relatively permanent movement of people from one place on the Earth's surface to another. There are innumerable reasons for individuals to migrate; however, when the world's population is viewed as a whole several trends appear. In this unit we will investigate those trends and answer other questions. What does the average migrant look like? What motivates that person to move? There are also millions of people impacted by involuntary migration, the situations in their home countries are so dire or dangerous that they must move and in some cases have even been forced to move by an army or dictator. Migration, whether by choice or force, is an important aspect to the distribution of the seven billion people on the planet.
