What happens when a Quadratic Function will not factor?

There are other methods we can use to solve those quadratic functions. One method is Solving Quadratic Functions by Completing the Square,  and a second method is Solving Quadratic Functions by using the Quadratic Formula.  Below you will see the embedded videos under the headings for these two methods. There are some problems after each method for you to practice the respective method.

Solve Quadratic Inequalities

Now it is time to explore solving quadratic "inequalities" in one variable. A quadratic "inequality" in one variable can be written as follows:

LaTeX: ax^2+bx+c<0ax2+bx+c<0

LaTeX: ax^2+bx+c\le0ax2+bx+c0

LaTeX: ax^2+bx+c>0ax2+bx+c>0

LaTeX: ax^2+bx+c\ge0ax2+bx+c0

When given a quadratic inequality, we solve it using any of previous methods. Our final result(s) though will not be a given point(s), but instead an interval(s) over which the solutions are elements of.

Watch the following teaching video to watch this process. After viewing this video, you should complete the self-assessment to become more familiar with this process.
