Rough Draft Assignment
Directions: Now that all ideas and evidence are ready for analysis, you will complete a Rough Draft and Peer Review based on the approved Thesis Discussion, approved Brainstorm assignment, and the approved evidence + in-text citations from the approved Source Chart. Complete the following steps for the Rough Draft and Peer Review Project:
- Use the approved brainstorm template from the "Brainstorm Assignment" to start
- Add the evidence + in-text citations from your Source Chart in the "Evidence" parts of the brainstorm template
- Then, add the "Analysis" in the "Analysis" parts of the brainstorm template:
- Analyze your evidence by answering: How does this evidence prove the supporting detail and topic sentence?
- Think about the following: This quote shows ________________. This quote is important because _______________.
- Then, remove "This quote shows" and "This quote is important because"
- Contact your instructor for more help with analysis
- Finalize the rough draft by putting your essay in paragraph form and proper MLA Format – remember to include a Works Cited
- Make sure to review how to put your essay in MLA Format and craft your Works Cited using the videos in the module
- Contact your instructor for a Peer Review partner – if you do not finish your rough draft in time to receive a Peer Review partner, complete the Peer Review on your own rough draft and submit both assignments to the dropbox - the Peer Review instructions are below
- The rough draft will be worth fifty points, and the peer review will be worth the other fifty points for this grade
- Complete the Rough Draft prior to completing the Peer Review Assignment.
Remember the following requirements while crafting the rough draft using your approved thesis, approved brainstorm, and approved evidence + in-text citations from the Source Chart:
- MLA format
- Introduction
- Paragraph form
- Proper thesis statement
- Topic sentences that relate to the thesis statement
- On topic development and transitions
- Evidence that supports claims
- Integrated evidence
- Correct in-text citations
- Analysis of evidence that does not summarize
- Conclusion sentences for each body paragraph
- Conclusion paragraph that does not summarize
- Works Cited
Peer Review Assignment
Directions: Please contact your instructor as soon as you finish the Rough Draft to receive a partner for the Peer Review. If you do not finish your rough draft in time to complete a peer review, you must complete the peer review on your own essay.
Answer the following questions on the Peer Review Assignment Sheet with depth regarding your or your peer’s essay. Make sure to submit YOUR responses about your or your peer’s essay on this document for your grade when finished, AND send your responses to the peer whose paper you are editing if you chose to work with a classmate.
Remember that the rough draft will be fifty points, and the peer review will be the other fifty points for one assignment grade:
