The Writing Process

Writing can be hard if you try to start with your introduction paragraph and then write the rest of the essay afterwards. You can use the Writing Process in any subject area where you need to create a well-written, organized response. The Writing Process helps you make sure that you have the best final product by following each step closely to make sure all of your ideas relate and that your claims have evidence.

Remember, start your essay with the thesis statement. Then try to follow the steps in the Writing Process and write your introduction and conclusion paragraphs last since the thesis statement and body paragraphs are the most important.

The Steps of the Writing Process

The Writing Process consists of five commonly referred to steps:

The Writing Process: 
Prewriting-Select a topic and begin brainstorming. Create a working thesis. 
Drafting-Construct brainstorming ideas into paragraph form. 
Revising-Examine the paper as a whole and analyze arguments and organization. Peer reviews occur also. 
Editing/Proofreading-Check the paper sentence by sentence for any issues with grammar and mechanics. 
Publishing-Producing a final draft polished piece of writing that is organized and cohesive.

By understanding and using each step of the Writing Process the correct way, you will end up with an organized and polished piece of writing. At the end of the Research and MLA Foundations module, you will be able to use the Writing Process to brainstorm and find support for the following topic:
