Before we continue, we need to know how to construct the perpendicular bisector of a segment.

Steps for Constructing a Perpendicular Bisector of a Segment

  1. Start with any segment.
  2. Placing the pointed end of the compass on an endpoint of the segment, open the compass to more than half of the length of the segment, but less than the whole length.
  3. Draw two arcs using each of the endpoints as centers.
  4. Label the points of intersection of the arcs.
  5. Construct the line connecting the two points.
  6. Label the point of intersection. This new line bisects the original segment!
