Introduction

In this lesson, you will learn how the coordinate system helps us to understand how other map systems work.

In yesterday’s lesson, you identified specific locations on a coordinate plane. Today, you will learn how coordinate systems work and how they help us to understand mapping systems.

Warm Up

Let’s brainstorm! Get out your math journal and jot down some ideas for the following questions:

1. Where can you find a map?
2. What places would have a map?

Mini Lesson

A park is a great example of a place that would have a map. Watch the video below and see if you can navigate your way around the park.
