Lesson 9: Solving Real World Math Problems using the 4 Square Strategy

Introduction

In this lesson, you will continue to practice dividing multi-digit numbers using multiple mathematical strategies. Additionally, you will learn how to read, understand and solve real-world math problems involving division. 

Yesterday, we continued our practice using our divisibility rules. Today, we will learn how to read, understand and solve real-world math problems involving division using a 4-Square strategy.

How do I read and understand real-world math problems?

Before we get started, please complete the following: 

        1. Print out your 4 Square notes.
        2. Glue them into your journal

This should be familiar as we used this strategy when we were learning about multiplying multi-digit numbers. Watch the video below to help in understanding how to use the 4 Square strategy when solving real-world math problems.

    2. Create a poster on the template provided using the 4 Square strategy. 
    3. You may design your poster however you would like, but the following needs to be included: 
        • the real-world problem
        • the 4 Square strategy
        • neat, legible, and colorful
    4. Glue the poster in your journal when complete.
