PPA - Mass Media Observation Project Introduction Lesson
Mass Media Observation Project Introduction
As we begin this module for Political Participation, take a look at the PPA Mass Media Observation Project at the end of the module. You will need to spend a week on this project, so plan accordingly.
Select a political issue and research how that issue is being framed and reported on in multiple media outlets. Use this investigation to develop a framework for discerning false, misleading, or biased information, including determining criteria for what makes a source credible.
- The issue you select must relate to the current week’s national news and in some way to US Government elections, policy, etc.
- Create a chart for media literacy using your findings on how one issue is covered by various outlets to gain insight into savvy media use. Use the chart provided or create your own.
Spend at least five consecutive days diving into at least 5 sources of news. You should be listening to at least 30 min of each or if using a website, reading at least 5 stories and perusing the headlines of others.
See the PPA Mass Media Observation Project page for the assignment details and rubric.
