Introduction

Following the trials of the United States Civil War, the United States would see tremendous growth during the Age of Industry. Growth in cities would create industries, provide jobs, and promote the American ideal to immigrants abroad. Key inventions would transform the United States and the world. As the nation grew new opportunities presented themselves, but so too did new challenges. Our nation's physical structure would be transformed and our way of life would forever be altered.
