Vergil: Translating The Aeneid

In this module, we will keep our focus on the poetry of Publius Vergilius Maro - commonly called Vergil. Now, though, we move on from reading in English to reading and translating passages from his most famous work: The Aeneid.

Image Note: The tapestry to the right depicts a scene from The Aeneid in which Dido, the Queen of Carthage, shows Aeneas her plans for fortifying her city. Two artists were involved in the creation of this tapestry: it was designed by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (Italian) and then woven in 1679 by Michael Wauters (Flemish). The tapestry is on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
