CCU: Lesson - The Five Big Ideas of AI

The Five Big Ideas of AI

Think About It...

With AI, we are asking computers to do things that we would call "thinking" - decision-making, problem-solving, planning and even communicating. Basically, anything we consider things that people can do with their brains, we are asking computers to do. So, take a moment to think about that concept and ask yourself:

  • What do human brains do?

It's not a small question! Humans do lots of things with their brains, so keep that "in mind" as we explore AI! The Five Big Ideas of AI are modeled on the five big things that humans do with their brains.

  • Big Idea #2 - Representation and Reasoning: Agents maintain representations of the world and use them for reasoning.
  • Big Idea #3 - Learning: Computers can learn from data.
  • Big Idea #4 - Natural interaction: Intelligent agents require many kinds of information to interact naturally with humans.
  • Big Idea #5 - Societal impact: AI can impact society in both positive and negative ways.
