PO2 - Lesson: Reading Resources and Expectations
Reading Resources and Expectations
Download Handout
To begin, please download the Poetry Essay Prompts for AP English Literature Exams Links to an external site. handout. Every poem for this module is included in that handout, so this is mandatory!
Expectations for the Second Poetry Module
As in previous units, it is advisable to read several of the poems in their entirety before tackling the activities in this unit. However, gaining an overview of what lies ahead can be beneficial. Since you are engaging with the short stories independently online, without direct teacher instruction, conducting some research beforehand is recommended.
While we aim to avoid spoilers, conducting basic research on each poem’s context, character summaries, and overall themes can enhance your understanding of each narrative. Additionally, listening to an audio recording of these poems can effectively aid comprehension and help you manage your reading time.
Always keep the end goal in mind. In addition to the AP test preparation activities, you will complete activities within the course based on these poems.
It is recommended to preview the content for each assignment before delving into the poetry. This will enable you to customize your notes and reading focus for each specific purpose.
Reflection
Remember to read actively by engaging in intentional annotation. As you read, be mindful of the structural elements, hidden meanings, and artistic devices like metaphors and personification, allowing the nuances of details, diction, and syntax to guide you in uncovering the distinct voices and expressions that transform each poem into a captivating work of art.
