Verb Conjugation - AR Verbs

The largest category of regular Spanish verbs is those that end in -ar. To conjugate them, remove the infinitive ending and then add one of the following verb endings:

-ar Verb Endings (Present Tense)
Person Singular Plural
1st Person -o -amos
2nd Person Informal -as -áis
3rd Person/2nd Person Formal -a -an

We saw these endings when we explored the verb hablar earlier. As a reminder, here is that chart again:

Conjugation of Hablar in the Present Tense
Person Singular Plural
1st Person (Yo) hablo (Nosotros) hablamos
2nd Person (informal) (Tú) hablas (Vosotros) habláis
3rd Person/2nd Person Formal (Él/Ella/Ud.) habla (Ellos/Ellas/Uds.) hablan

A notebook and pen with ¡Toma apuntes! written on it.

Now, let's take a deeper look at conjugating -ar verbs.

Take notes - pause the video often to be certain that you can retain this information.

We suggest you practice your verb conjugation chart as demonstrated in this video. You will use it often in this course and in your mind as you conjugate verbs in Spanish.
