TLE: Lesson - Los pronombres

Two kids converse in front of blue lockersLos pronombres

Subject Pronouns in Spanish, or los pronombres personales, are the words we use to identify the subject of a verb when not using a specific noun. A subject pronoun can replace any type of noun, whether person, place, or thing.

These pronouns (also referred to as “personal pronouns”) tell us who or what is performing the action of a verb, without needing to repeat a previously mentioned noun.

Let’s see a simple example of pronouns in action:

  • Claudia and Miguel go to school together. They are friends.
  • Claudia y Miguel van a la escuela juntos. Ellos son amigos.

In this example, the subjects Claudia and Miguel were replaced by the subject pronoun ellos (they).

Practice Activity

It's now time to practice what you've learned.

Complete the following practice activity. Be sure you do not forget to use correct end punctuation, capitalization, accents, and all diacritical marks in your response, or points will be deducted.

NOTE: You are required to use information from this course to complete all practice activities. Additionally, fill-in-the-blank activities can be very particular: if an item is marked incorrect, double check that it wasn't something as minor as an extra space or a capital letter in the wrong place!
