Common Phrases

Let's carry on with our second lesson on greetings and useful phrases in the context of daily conversations. Continue to take notes as you learn these useful basic phrases.

Review

Let's review the Spanish phrases covered in the video. Along with learning to write each phrase, take time to practice reading them out loud. This is a great place to practice your new pronunciation skills! Also, if you have a friend who is also taking/knows Spanish nearby, practice using these conversational phrases with each other. Certain phrases are marked in bold - please pay careful attention to these words and phrases!

  • Hasta luego. - See you later.
  • Buenos días. - Good morning.
  • Buenas tardes. Good afternoon.
  • Buenas noches - Good night or good evening.
  • Sí - Yes

  • Nos vemos. - See you later.
  • Hasta mañana. - See you tomorrow.
  • ¿Cuál es tu nombre? - What is your name?
  • Yo soy... - I am...
  • Encantado de conocerle. - Nice to meet you. (formal)
  • Encantado de conocerte. - Nice to meet you. (informal)
  • Gracias. - Thank you.
  • Muchas gracias. - Thank you very much.
  • De nada. - You are welcome.
  • No hay de qué. - Don´t mention it.
  • Por favor. - Please.
  • ¿Perdón? - Sorry? (when you are unsure)
  • Lo siento. - Sorry. (when you did something wrong)
  • Bienvenidos. - Welcome.
  • ¿Cómo estás? - How are you?
  • ¿Qué hora es? - What time is it?
  • ¿Cuánto es? - How much?
  • ¿Qué es eso? - What is that?
  • ¿En dónde está el baño? - Where is the bathroom?
  • No lo comprendo. - I don´t understand.

Practice Activity

Let´s practice what you just learned. Type the words in Spanish. Look at your notes and practice as many times as you need! 

Complete the following practice activity. Don’t forget to add acentos when required.
