PRE: Lesson - Los acentos

The letter a, both capital and lower case with accent mark: Á áLos acentos

The accent marks in Spanish are used with vowels, like this:

á, é, í, ó, ú
Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú

These may seem insignificant, but they represent an important way to show how words are pronounced. Accents point out emphasis.

Each word in Spanish contains an accent, a syllable that is stressed, but these don't always have to be marked with an accent mark. For now, the most important task is to learn how to type acentos in your computer. As you learn vocabulary such as ¿Cómo estás?, take notes of the new words you are learning that require acentos and practice how to type them today.

Watch the video lesson below, open a word document in your computer and try to type acentos for each vowel, type the letter ñ, and the exclamation and question marks we use in Spanish: ¿? ¡!

You must use acentos for assignments, tests, and quizzes. Email your instructor today if you are having trouble typing acentos. Do not move forward with your lessons until you complete this important task.
