Japan attacked the United States Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. This surprise attack by Japan resulted in a change in public opinion in the United States from an isolationist nation to being a global superpower. Congress declared war against Japan and the other Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan.
