Lesson 16: Culture of the 1920s: The Harlem Renaissance
Introduction
In this lesson, you will consider the culture of the 1920s and how life in America was changing.
Focus Question:
What cultural changes took place in the 1920s?
The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was the movement of African-American culture in the United States, which occurred from the 1920s until the early 1930s. After World War I, African-Americans from farmlands began to migrate to the cities, like Harlem in New York, to seek new opportunities. The movement coincided with the Jazz Age, which had a big impact on African-American music.
