In this lesson, you will consider how Americans were encouraged and showed their support for the war.

Propaganda Posters
What the public thought about the war really mattered. The government needed to recruit lots of soldiers and wanted people to support them.
Posters were printed that made the army look exciting. Other posters told men it was their duty to join, that they would feel proud if they did and guilty or embarrassed if they didn't join.
Many other posters encouraged Americans to support the war, and soldiers, and to help fund the war through money bonds.
These posters were called propaganda posters. These posters were used throughout the war in an effort to support the war and encourage the American people.
Assignment
For this activity, you will create your own propaganda poster. Take into consideration the different uses for the propaganda posters discussed and decide what purpose you want your poster to serve. You can either create a digital poster or you can create one on paper and color with colored pencils, markers, or crayons. You can then take a picture or scan it as a digital file. You may then attach it to the assignment or insert the link.

Propaganda Posters helped show how evil the enemy was. Although some truth was shown in the posters, many were exaggerated to persuade citizens to do as the government desired. Propaganda was used in various countries and was quite effective in helping the war effort.
