Cattle Trails

Hello Again, Friends!

Today, we are going to travel back in time to the late 1800s when cowgals and guys were ropin’ longhorns! You may be wondering what it was really like!

Well, today, you are going to figure that out! You are going to take on the role of either Cookie, a Black Cowboy, or a ranch owner. Cookie is a cowhand living on the trail. A Black Cowboy is just that- a former slave who was freed and now has more respect and freedom living on the trail driving the cattle North. Lastly, a ranch owner is just that- someone who owns a ranch!

You will take on a selected role and write a letter, a newspaper article, or a diary entry. For this assignment, I really want you to get into the role! Talk like you think they would and be creative!

Before you get started, watch this quick video that reviews the 5 main parts of a letter!
