Practice Introductions

Practice writing an introduction to an opinion essay using different hooks. Hooks are so important for your writing because that is the first impression the audience will have of your writing. If the hook isn’t powerful, the audience won’t want to continue reading your essay. 

In Your Journal: 

        1. Using the opinion and points (reasons) below, write all three types of hooks: shocking statement, critical thinking question, and descriptive to create a scene. If you’ve completed the previous lesson, you already used one hook. You only need to write the other two.

        2. Let’s reflect! How important is a hook to add interest to your writing? Highlight your favorite hook.

        3. Share with a partner or your teacher.

Kids should be allowed to play video games
  • Video games help to make kids hand and eye coordination better.
  • Gaming helps older kids to continue imaginative play and creative thinking.
  • Gamers have a better chance of being more social because they will have something in common to talk about with other gamers.
