Introduction

When readers come to an unknown, or unfamiliar word, they have strategies to help them determine the meaning of unknown words. Skipping an unknown word is NOT a strategy. Instead of skipping try: 1) look AROUND the word for clues, or 2) examine the word (prefix, suffix, root) for clues. Also, consider the connotation or feeling (VIBE) of the sentence: is it positive or negative.
