Introduction

Transition words are used to connect ideas within a paragraph.   

Another type of transition is a transitional sentence from one paragraph to another. These are called linking sentences.

Four Square Graphic Organizer

These special transitions connect the current paragraph to the previous one. It’s like a bridge! They summarize the previous paragraph AND introduce a new idea. Another way to explain links is that the reader will be able to understand what was just read and the point to be discussed next. These special transitions occur at the end of one paragraph and the beginning of a new one. Remember, you’re building bridges to connect your paragraphs.
