Theme is often the driving force to make a story into a drama as it will hold the attention of the audience.

Theme

Think back to the drama, Standing Up By Sitting In Download Standing Up By Sitting In, and what you listed as the theme on the graphic organizer.

In your Journal:

        • List the theme. 
        • In a constructed response, discuss why this retelling of a historical event as a drama is powerful. Consider the topic of social change. Is it powerful to SEE the how the students and members of the community interacted? Why? How would this be different if this were simply written as a passage and not a drama.
