W26D1 Writing
Introduction
Thus far, you have analyzed the opinion prompt, or writing task, read the articles and highlighted all the reasons (evidence) the author gave to support their reasons, and finally…select which side, or opinion, you will agree with and write about.
The next step will be to take the highlighted evidence from the text and put it into the graphic organizer. It’s important that you don’t skip any of these steps because this planning graphic organizer will be your guide to writing an essay that is organized and focused.
The first step when moving evidence from the text to the graphic organizer…use your own words. While you ARE using the text, you must restate the evidence in your own words. This is paraphrasing. Think of the four R’s of paraphrasing: read, restate, recheck, and refer. Remember, a writer may paraphrase a single sentence or a group of sentences.
Restating the evidence in your own words is called paraphrasing
