Practice Introductions

Practice writing an introduction to an opinion essay using HOP. You will write about why kids should be allowed to play video games. Your three points are provided to you in the table below. 

In Your Journal: 

        1. Write your hook. What kind of hook will you use (shocking statement, critical thinking question, or describing a picture)? 
        2. Write your strong opinion using a transition phrase such as: in my opinion, I feel, I believe, I am convinced, I am confident that, etc.
        3. Include your three points or reasons that support your opinion. 
        4. Share with a partner or your teacher.

Kids should be allowed to play video games
  • Video games help to make kids hand and eye coordination better.
  • Gaming helps older kids to continue imaginative play and creative thinking.
  • Gamers have a better chance of being more social because they will have something in common to talk about with other gamers.
