One article supports unstructured recess time or free-play; while the other argues that recess should be structured or planned.

After reading both passages, answer the following question:

Should recess be structured or unstructured?

You will write an opinion essay using information from both passages to support your answer.

Now that you understand the prompt, you will take the first steps to write an opinion essay to support your opinion of whether or not recess should be structured.

Over the next two lessons, you will read both passages with the prompt in mind.

Complete the graphic organizer at the end of each passage using the annotation tool. Consider the reasons the author is giving you to support his/her opinion.
