Paraphrasing Vs. Plagiarism Practice

A student was given the article, Strength In Numbers Download Strength In Numbers, and the following prompt:

Explain the difference between an organism and a species.

In their answer below, some of the text information was paraphrased. Yay! But, some of the text evidence was plagiarized. Oh, no! Read the following response to determine which information was plagiarized and which information was paraphrased.

Student answer:

An organism and a species are not the same thing. A species is able to reproduce together. The author noted that species generally stay in the same location because they have similar needs like food and a place to make a home. According to the text, an organism is one living thing. An organism is one thing that needs energy to keep on living. Organisms include a piece of grass, you, a chicken, or a whale.

Drag and drop their sentences to the correct column. Was the information paraphrased, or plagiarized?
