Introduction

Theme is another important story element. Often, a reader can only determine the theme after reading an entire story or passage. Theme is the life lesson, or moral, the character learns from the conflict. Themes are mostly inferred. Rarely will the author state the theme.

There is the life lesson or moral, the character learns from the conflict.

There are three strategies to help readers make inferences to determine the theme. Readers can use one or all of the strategies to determine the theme.
