Lesson 8 - Vertebrates: Reptiles

Introduction

All reptiles are vertebrates that breathe with lungs and have dry, scaly skin. Reptiles lay eggs that have a dry leathery shell. Unlike amphibians, which lay eggs with a jelly-like coating that must remain in the water, reptiles are less dependent on water. Turtles are the only reptiles that have their “houses” on their backs. Lizards have visible, moving eyelids, limbs, and an ear opening on each side of their head. Snakes have no limbs, eyelids, or ear openings. Crocodilians include alligators, as well as crocodiles. They are the most primitive reptiles.

In your Science Journal:

    1. Write down today’s Lesson Title at the top of your next Journal page.
    2. Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
    3. Explore the Module 4 - Lesson 8 presentation below. Today, we’ll learn about the next group of vertebrates, reptiles.  We’ll be exploring a Google Slides presentation about reptiles. It is a presentation that will help you understand the characteristics of reptiles.
    4. Write down the important terms and their definitions (yellow boxes) in your science journal.
