Lesson 17 - DC Circuits PHET Simulation 3

Introduction

Let’s learn more about current electricity by using an interactive simulation from PHET.  In this simulation, you’ll build two different circuits. One with only one pathway for the electricity - a series circuit. You’ll also make another circuit with more than one pathway for the electricity - a parallel circuit.

Interactive

In your Science Journal:

    1. Complete the instruction on the slide below..
    2. Make sure to record your answers from the questions and your observations  from the presentation into your science journal.

What are parallel and series circuit?

Today we'll be exploring a simulation from Phet about current electricity
below this slide you will see the simulation: Circuit Construction Kit: DC
Go to the lab section
you're going to design an experiment to discover a way to connect two light bulbs in a circuit so that:
a. if one light bulb is disconnected both light bulbs go out and
b. if one bulb is disconnected the other bulb will remain lit.
Draw the two different circuits (a. series circuit and b. parallel circuit) in your journal.
what happens if you add more and more light bulbs to the series circuit?
