Lesson 19 - Destructive Forces - Caves and Sinkholes
Introduction
The processes for wearing away land are called destructive forces. Today, we will learn about caves and sinkholes. These underground depressions form from the movement of water underground through easily erodible rocks.

In your Science Journal:
-
- Write down today’s Lesson Title at the top of your next Journal page.
- Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
- Explore the Module 6 - Lesson 19 presentation below. Caves are formed by geologic processes. These may involve a combination of chemical processes, erosion from water, tectonic forces, microorganisms, pressure, and atmospheric influences. Most caves are formed in limestone. A sinkhole is a void in the ground caused by a collapse of the Earth's surface layer. This usually occurs when the limestone and gypsum underground dissolves or shifts as a result of lots of moving water in one area.
- Write down the important terms and their definitions and important diagrams (yellow boxes) in your Science Journal.
