Lesson 1 - Introduction to Heredity and Genetics

Introduction

Genetics is the science of what makes you, you. Genetics explains why you have hair like your dad, a wide smile like your mom, and long skinny legs like your Aunt! You need a powerful microscope to peek inside a human cell to unlock the secret formula that turns a bunch of proteins into a unique person. That formula, DNA, was discovered by scientists working to determine what information is passed from generation to generation - scientists like Gregor Mendel.

Introduction to Heredity and Genetics

In your Science Journal:

    1. Write down today’s Lesson Title at the top of your next Journal page.
    2. Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
    3. Explore the Module 5 - Lesson 1 presentation below. Today, we’ll learn about heredity and genetics.  We’ll be exploring a Heredity and Genetics Google Slides presentation. It is a presentation that will help introduce you to Heredity and the father of genetics, Gregor Mendel.
    4. Write down the important terms and their definitions (yellow boxes) in your science journal.
