Lesson 4 - Organelles: Nucleus

Introduction

Today we'll discuss the part of a cell that acts similar to our brain in our bodies. It sends messages to the rest of the cell and controls what the cell does  - the nucleus.

Directions:

    1. Grab your Science Journal and a pencil.
    2. Write down today’s Lesson Title at the top of your next Journal page.
    3. Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
    4. Watch the Module 2 - Lesson 4 video below.
    5. Write down the important terms and their definitions (yellow boxes) in your Science Journal.
    6. Pause the video as often as you need.

Edible Cell Models

Let’s look again at some of the models we saw yesterday.

Edible Cell Models

Edible models are a fun way to model the parts of a cell. Here the nucleus is represented by a brown and yellow dollop of icing.

Cell in a Bag

A cell in a bag is another great way to model a cell. Here the Ziploc bag itself is the cell membrane. The cytoplasm is represented by the water that fills the bag. The organelles (candies) move around in the cytoplasm (water.). The nucleus is the blue plastic egg in the center. The nucleus is usually in the center of the cell.

Interactive

Let's see if you can figure out which items represent the nucleus
