Lesson 1 - Introduction to Cells

Introduction

Cells make up every living thing or organism, on Earth. Cells are very small but are the building blocks of life.

Today we’ll be learning about cells and how they work. We’ll begin to discuss the parts of the cell and their role in living things. Cells come in many different shapes and have many different purposes in living things.

Directions:

    1. Grab your Science Journal and a pencil.
    2. Write down today’s Lesson Title at the top of your next Journal page.
    3. Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
    4. Watch the Module 2 - Lesson 1 video below.
    5. Write down the important terms and their definitions (yellow boxes) in your Science Journal.
    6. Pause the video as often as you need.

Activity

Today, we’ll get to explore the different types of cells we’ll be learning about - animal cells and plant cells. We’ll be exploring a cell PowerPoint presentation. It is a presentation that allows you to explore the inner workings of an animal cell and a plant cell. Make sure you scroll down through the entire presentation

In your Science Journal: As you are interacting with the Cell presentation, make a T- chart in your journal. Write down the parts of each cell that you see for each type of cell in the appropriate column of the T-chart.
