Lesson 2 - Introduction to Models
Introduction
For today’s lesson we will talk about an important aspect of science - models. Models are important in gaining understanding because they represent real-life scientific phenomena.
Models can show the structure of things or how things work.
We’ll be analyzing and explaining many models this year in science!
Let’s get started!
Types of Models and Phenomena
Directions:
-
- Grab your Science Journal and a pencil.
- Write down today’s lesson title at the top of your next journal page.
- Write today’s learning objective on the first line.
- Watch the Module 1 - Lesson 2 video below.
- Write down the important terms and their definitions (yellow boxes) in your Science Journal.
- Pause the video as often as you need.
Activity
What models of phenomena do you remember learning about or seeing in previous years in school?
In your Science Journal: Below the important terms from the video, try to think back to previous years in school. Think back to learning about animals, the solar systems, weather, pollutants, the water cycle, etc. Which ones do you remember? Write the names of those down. Also try to draw a picture of one of the models you remember. Be ready to share it later this week!
