Introduction

When we write, we have the power to show tone and feeling! One way to do this is through punctuation. We need to make sure that we are using the right punctuation, or our writing may be misinterpreted. 

Today, we will be learning about the function of the ellipses. 

period - used at the end of a sentence commas - marks a pause during a sentence question mark - used at the end of a question exclamation mark - used for expression when making a declaration semi colon - used to separate two independent clauses colon - used to separate items on a list quotation marks - used to show direct speech within text hyphen - used to join two adjectives before a noun brackets/parentheses - used to provide additional information ellipses - used to signify missing text Please use punctuation correctly. (Refer to the graphic as needed.) We are positive … that this fire was accidental.

In Your Notebook:  Add to the punctuation chart. Make sure to include the purpose of the punctuation. Then, create your own sentences using the punctuation.

Introduction

We learned that sometimes root words come from Greek or Latin words, but sometimes our phrases and words in English also come from myths! Our reading focus for the next few lessons will be reading greek myths and trying to understand the word that was created from the myth.

Yesterday, we learned the word "atlas." Today, we will be finding out the origins of the phrase "Pandora's box."
